Lets See Your Edible Garden

What's happening in my garden?

03 Jul 2008

Strawberries are starting to be harvested from the mini gardens.

Nice bunch of Bananas coming along.

Plenty of Oakleaf lettuce that gets picked each day.

Tomatoes are a little slower in this cooler weather but it won’t be long now!

These Sebago potatoes are going well.

Carrots and Beet root nearly ready to pull.

Pineapples

21 Mar 2008

Our pineapple patch has been quite productive lately and they are nice and sweet. I replant the tops for a continuing cycle.

It’s just a matter of screwing the top off and removing the lower leaves of the top to expose about 20cm of bare stem – this is where the roots will develop.
It,s a good idea to leave the top on top of another plant for a week to dry and then plant it out. They can be planted quite close together eg. 20cm apart.

What can be grown in a narrow bed?

14 Mar 2008

Lots! As Barbara’s home at Moggill proves. She has a really productive little area along the side of the house which is no wider than 60 cm. These are some of the healthiest cherry tomatoes I have seen in a while, along with an egg plant and lots of fresh herbs for her families meals.

Wet Pots

02 Mar 2008

This is Tom installing wet pots along our row of tomatoes. They are connected straight onto a rain water tank so we won’t need to worry about them for a long time.

Dragon Fruit in Flower

02 Mar 2008

I have had 4 buds on my dragon fruit plant that has been growing in a pot and they all decided to open up on the same day. They are huge and covered with pollen. I am really looking forward to the fruit.
